I can?t imagine what it would be like to be involved with naming devices and services, but I can honestly say that I think I could do a better job that some of these companies. Last week, Apple threw a monkey wrench out there by choosing NOT to name their newest version of the iPad the iPad 3 or HD or whatever. I am so glad they didn?t slap the HD on the end, I really dislike how companies abuse that.
Today, Diego Magnani, a fellow former Windows Mobile MVP and Pocket PC enthusiast, posted some details about Windows Phone Tango onWindows Phone Italy. What we?ve all been calling Windows Phone Tango, is now officially calledWindows Phone 7.5 Refresh? Really? At least call it Windows Phone 7.6 or 7.51, something. Refresh? That?s all you could come up with Microsoft? This information was obtained by Windows Phone Italyin an interview withStefania Duico, a Windows Phone executive withMicrosoftItaly.
As you can guess from the name, this is a minor release of the mobile platform, which will introduce a substantially limited number of news, but bring with it especially the correction of several bugs.To learn about the new Windows Phone 7.5 Refresh (?Tango?) andWindows Phone ?Apollo?(probably Windows Phone 8), we refer therefore to read our exclusive interview, which will be published shortly, namely the following day.
This release of Windows Phone is the one that pretty much dumbs down Microsoft?s unique smart phone OS by lowering some of the required hardware requirements. It?s not all bad in all fairness, there are enhancements that ?Refresh? will bring as well. I just don?t like the fact that the hardware requirements are being lowered and manufacturers are permitted to produce ?cheap? phones running Windows Phone.
Next up after ?Refresh? is Windows Phone Apollo, which is the rumored code name for Windows Phone 8.
