Last week, Verizon?s support account on Twitter claimed that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus that runs on its network would be getting an update in the near future. The account did not say what that update might be. In addition, the Verizon Galaxy Nexus support page on Verizon?s website lists a software update as coming soon though the carrier does not say what that update might be.
The logical update is the still missing Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update that has already hit other Nexus devices in the U.S., including the Sprint Galaxy Nexus, and now some evidence has surfaced which indicates that Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, the most recent version, could be hitting the Verizon Galaxy Nexus in the near future.
Droid-Life has unearthed a screenshot from an individual who has a Verizon Galaxy Nexus in his possession which is running Android 4.2.2. The person, XDA member ElMadhatter, is currently testing the update though beyond the screenshot, neither a release date nor a leaked build has surfaced just yet.
For those interested, it also appears that the Verizon Galaxy Nexus Android 4.2.2 update brings new radios along with it.
Neither Samsung nor Verizon have confirmed any sort of timing for the update but now that it?s in the hands of testers, it should only be a matter of time before the update rolls out to the public at large.
Android 4.2 is an incremental Android update but it?s still one that Verizon Galaxy Nexus owners have been waiting for. It brings more Google Now functionality, a gesture-enhanced keyboard, Quick Settings for easy access to things like Wi-Fi and more.
It?s an update that should hold Galaxy Nexus owners over until the arrival of Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie which is rumored to be launching in May at Google I/O.
