Six months ago, the Samsung Galaxy S3 took the smartphone world by storm and since then, the flagship smartphone has gone on to sell more than 30 million units worldwide. The Galaxy S3?s success hasn?t managed to slow down rumors of a successor though with the Samsung Galaxy S4 rumor mill already on fire. And even though it remains a rumor, there are definitely some reasons why users may want to pass on Samsung?s current flagship and opt to wait for the Samsung Galaxy S4 release date.

We haven?t even hit CES 2013 yet and already rumors of the Samsung Galaxy S4, its features and its release date are swirling around. For owners of the Galaxy S2 who will be coming off-contract next year, the prospect of a new Galaxy S4 is exciting. For owners of the Galaxy S3, discouraging or tempting. And for those looking for a new smartphone, it?s a phone that might be worth waiting for.
The Galaxy S3 was one of the most impressive devices of 2012 and Samsung will likely try to outdo itself with the Samsung Galaxy S4 in 2013. That alone is a reason to think about waiting for the Samsung Galaxy S4. For those that are looking for a smartphone, there are several more reasons why you may want to consider waiting for next year?s Galaxy S4. Some obvious, others, a little more subtle.
That being said, here are five reasons to wait for the Samsung Galaxy S4.
What?s Five Months?
One of the biggest items that prospective owners have to weigh when looking for a new smartphone is whether a phone is going to be worth signing up for a new contract. Most buyers are going to opt for the subsidized pricing of a smartphone and that means locking into a two-year agreement with the carrier, signing up for a data plan and keeping a phone for the many months to come.

Yes, the Samsung Galaxy S3 is a fantastic phone. One of the best of 2012 actually. However, it?s now six months old, ancient in the world of Android. But that?s the beauty of Android. You only have to wait a few months before something else emerges that blows the other technology out of the water. Case in the point, the Galaxy S4, which is slated to be coming out as early as April.
With the upgrades that it?s supposed to have ? a 1808p display, Android 5.0, quad-core processor, and given that it?s Samsung, a whole lot more ? waiting a few extra months to snag the latest on a two year contract is a move worth considering.
Fantastic Display
The Droid DNA?s 1080p display with 440 pixels-per-inch is just the tip of the iceberg. Samsung will almost assuredly be putting a similar display on the Galaxy S4 with rumors pointing to a Galaxy S4 display unveiling at CES 2013. The display is said to be 4.99-inches in size, of AMOLED quality, and featuring 1080p resolution and 441 pixels-per-inch. If true, not only will it offer gorgeous text and beautiful video, it will blow away the screen on the Galaxy S3 and really, any phone not called Droid DNA.
What?s more, the Galaxy S4 is said to be unbreakable. Like, take a hammer and attempt to smash it without success unbreakable. The technology can be seen in the video below.
So, anyone that really cares about good looking content, apps, text and more on their smartphone will likely want to think about waiting for the Galaxy S4 which should feature one of the best displays of 2013.
Galaxy S4 & Android 5.0
If the Samsung Galaxy S4 comes out in April or May as is rumored, it could be that it?s one of the first devices to get the Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie update from Google. Google I/O, the assumed coming out party for the update, is set to take place in May. We?ve also seen the Android APK which is supposed to help Android manufacturers get their updates out quickly. We?ve also seen the Galaxy S4 rumored to have Android 5.0 on board and Samsung be swift in rolling out Jelly Bean to its Galaxy S3.
It seems like a perfect storm and at this point, it could be that this phone is one of the first non-Nexus devices to see this update. And given how good Android Jelly Bean was, it figures to be a fantastic update.
Those that don?t want a Nexus and want Android 5.0 will definitely want to consider waiting for the Galaxy S4.
Fast Updates
Like Motorola, Samsung has made some fantastic strides in terms of the speed at which it pushes out major updates to its devices. For example, many of Samsung?s devices, including the Galaxy Note 10.1 and the Galaxy S3 have been upgraded to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Samsung has even taken it a bit further, already rolling out a fantastic Android 4.1.2 update for the Galaxy S3 that brings the Galaxy Note 2?s powerful Multi Window View feature.
Suffice to say, it?s clear that Samsung is giving special treatment to its flagship smartphone and consumers should expect the same to happen with the Galaxy S4. It?s an aspect that certainly should put the Galaxy S4 up there on any potential smartphone shopping list for 2013. Maybe even at the top.
Improved Carrier Options
Finally, consumers will want to think about waiting for the Samsung Galaxy S4 because by the time it?s out, American carriers will have matured 4G LTE networks and, even better, one of them should finally be well on its way to getting 4G LTE in place.
The Samsung Galaxy S3, unlike many Android smartphones, launched on a multitude of carriers including the big four, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon. Same thing happened with the Galaxy Note 2. While not highly touted, this is fantastic for those that are thinking about ditching a phone and buying a new one because it offers choice, something that is not always available.
Even better, 4G LTE is going to be even more widespread by the middle of next year which means those who either don?t have it or are in fringe areas may just want to wait.
Those who are on T-Mobile or looking at T-Mobile will also want to wait for the Galaxy S4 as well because it will almost certainly offer 4G LTE speeds on the carrier?s new 4G LTE network, set to debut sometime in 2013.
