Soldiers face many dangers on the battlefield and one of the big ones is bleeding out when wounded. Combat medics could help save the lives of U.S. soldiers from bleeding to death in the future by using a special foam injection.
This foam has been tested in laboratories and has proven itself quite effective. In the tests it has stopped bleeding for up to an hour when placed within the abdominal cavities of pigs. The U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency hopes that future development of this technology can prevent the death of U.S. soldiers due to internal bleeding.
Internal bleeding is the leading cause of potentially survivable deaths on the battlefield, so this is a major step in battlefield medicine.
