The United States Postal Service has not been doing well. They lost $3.4 billion last quarter alone and as usual their decisions continue to make things worse, by stopping more revenue from flowing in. Starting on May 16th they will ban the shipping of some electronics abroad, including tablets and smartphones.
At issue are the lithium batteries inside those gadgets, which under certain circumstances are very flammable. They are believed to have caused at least two cargo plane accidents since 2006. I guess foreigners will have to get their gadgets from another source.
US Soldiers will be hit by this ban as they often get gadgets shipped to them. They have alternatives, but those are all more expensive.
