Amazon?s Kindle first hit Target stores in 2010 and by all indications the sales have been very successful. In fact, the Kindle Fire became the retailer?s best-selling tablet during Black Friday in 2011. Now according to an internal memo from Target and some info from an unnamed source, Target will stop carrying the Kindle line due to a ?conflict of interest?.
The internal memo shows that Target will be removing Amazon hardware from its locations starting this month. They will have a selection of accessories that will continue to sell in the stores, but the Kindles themselves will stop selling on May 13th.
Right now some physical stores still have the Kindle devices, but Target?s Kindle branded online store came up empty. We have no word on what the ?conflict of interest? actually is but TheVerge thinks that it is Apple who recently partnered with Target for a small number of mini-stores.
