Ever lost your phone? Ever found someone else?s phone? It is nerve-wracking to think of what could happen if your phone falls into a strangers hands. The information we keep on our phones often becomes more sensitive than details in our own wallets! And whereas we like to think that humankind will track you down if they find your phone, anything is possible.
To determine exactly what happens to a lost phone, a computer security firm recently set up and ?lost? 50 smartphones in the US and Canada and tracked the actions taken on those phones. What they found is:
- On 57% of the phones a file named ?saved passwords? was accessed
- 60% checked the owner?s email or social media
- 72% looked at photos
- 43% attempted to use an app called ?online banking?
