While most of the current Android rumors have centered around the upcoming Nexus launch, Android 4.2, the next version of Android, has seemingly flown under the radar. That is, until today, when a new report detailed some of the possible features that will be coming with the new update.
Android and Me is reporting that Android 4.2 will feature a number of features that should make it a desirable update over Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the current Android operating system.
It appears that the new Nexus, or new Nexus? as it appears that Google may be allowing multiple manufacturers into the Nexus program provided that they follow a few rules, will be running Android 4.2 out of the box. And for those that may be in the market for a new Nexus, it looks like an exciting update.
The new Nexus may use Andorid 4.2 with better battery life and an enhanced Google Now.
The first rumored feature is called Customization Center which will allow users to easily customize things like ringtones, backgrounds, language packs, and even launchers. Users can also use filters to change up the user interface and the appearance of dynamic icons, which will be new to Android.
Manufacturers will be able to provide custom user interfaces for download through the Google Play Store. This way, users can update to the latest Android update without having to wait for manufacturers to update their interface overlays.
Second, and just as important, it appears there is a feature called Project Roadrunner, similar to Project Butter in Android 4.1, but Project Roadrunner deals with battery life rather than the user interface itself.

It appears that it will increase battery life but at this point, there are no details other than that.
Google Now will also be updated with more functionality including the ability to ask for help and we imagine that Google will add functionality beyond just that as well.
Google Play will be updated with features like Notification Integration and personalized search and there should be an updated video player coming along with Android 4.2.
We assume that Google has things that are still in the shadows as well but from the looks of things, Android 4.2 is looking like a very serious update, even if it?s an incremental one.
We imagine that Andy Rubin may show off Android 4.2 at the All Things D: Dive Into Mobile conference on October 29th but that?s not a given. We have heard that the new Nexus will make its debut at the end of October so that event is looking like a prime candidate for both the new software and new Nexus software.
