Even though some individual games have been a success, the video game retail industry isn?t doing that great right now. Data from the NPD Group shows that both video game hardware, software and accessory sales in the U.S. totaled $3.2 billion at retail alone, which is a 22 percent decline from last year?s $4.1 billion.
Keep in kind that this is only brick-and-mortar stores and not digital sales, like Steam or other digital marketplaces. That number definitely goes up when you include sources like Amazon and other online sellers.
