Video Game Retail Sales Down 22 Percent From 2011

Even though some individual games have been a success, the video game retail industry isn?t doing that great right now. Data from the NPD Group shows that both video game hardware, software and accessory sales in the U.S. totaled $3.2 billion at retail alone, which is a 22 percent decline from last year?s $4.1 billion.

Keep in kind that this is only brick-and-mortar stores and not digital sales, like Steam or other digital marketplaces. That number definitely goes up when you include sources like Amazon and other online sellers.

Probably many of us buy our games online these days. Many of us wait a few months for the price to go down even.
