Professional Football Table

by Edwin - on February 29th, 2012

Imagination is a wonderful thing, and when you think about the days when you were a kid, a single chair can be turned into a race car, a tank, or even an aeroplane. That treehouse in your backyard? That was the spawning point for hundreds of scenarios throughout the years. How about the standard square desk? We could even turn it into an impromptu football table where flickabouts of great games occur, but here is the real deal now that you have grown up and are paying your own rent ? the 1,100 Professional Football Table.

Handmade in the UK (and perhaps, explaining its price), this is an engineered laser cut table which would definitely be the ideal centrepiece in any office, sports club or football fan?s home. You are able to choose your team colors (Red and Black, Yellow and Green, and Claret and Blue), but forget about kits from teams like Arsenal and Liverpool. I don?t suppose an office betting pool or mini league would be set up with this?

HTC Talking To Google About Producing Next Nexus Device?

The other day we heard a rumor that LG may be making Google?s next Nexus smartphone, the most recent one was produced by Samsung, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and the device comes with a stock version of Google?s Android OS, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

When Google produces a new Nexus device, it chooses one manufacturer to make the device, and in the past it has chosen a different company each time.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus

HTC originally worked with Google on the first Nexus smartphone, the Nexus One, and now according to a recent report, HTC are in talks with Google to make the next Nexus device.

It looks like Google hasn?t as yet decided which company it will use to produce the next Nexus device it could possibly be HTC or LG, or one of the many other manufacturers who make Android devices.

iPad 3 With Retina Display To Be Unveiled March 7th ? Will You Be Buying One? [Poll]

If you haven?t tuned into the tech blogosphere in the past few minutes, Apple has just sent out invites for their long rumored iPad 3 for a March 7th unveiling in San Francisco, CA. Apple fanboys and ? a few Android ones too ? are losing their gosh damn minds for this tablet and with good reason. This new iPad 3 is rumored to have a quad-core processor, constructed out of solid unicorn horn and if that above press invite is any indication, feature a high-def retina display.

If there?s one thing I?ve noticed here in our comments or on various sites, there?s 2 things Android fans love. Their Cores, and their HD displays. With all that being said, I know there are more than a few Android fans who actually own both an Android smartphone and (gasp!) an iPad. Whether it?s because they like variety, or if they?re just plain ?ol crazy in the head, it leaves me wondering: How many of you are looking forward to the iPad 3 and will most likely pick one up? It?s no secret Android tablets haven?t been selling so hot, and I?m sure many of you haven?t been buying them either. But I?ve oft wondered how many of our readers were closet iOS users, and will be picking up Apple?s latest tablet? Time for a viewer poll!

Don?t forget after voting, to leave your thoughts on why ? or why not ? you?ll be choosing the iPad 3 in addition to, or over the plethora of Android tablets currently available. Please, keep flaming to a minimum and insults or other derogatory statements will result in deletion. I?ve also dusted off my trusty ban hammer. I?ll be watching.

HTC Wants to Make the Android 5.0 Nexus

HTC made the first ?Google phone? dubbed the Nexus One. The next two, the Nexus S and the Galaxy Nexus, were both made by Samsung. And now, only two months after the release of the third Nexus device, we are already hearing about the next Nexus smartphone which will be running Google?s Android 5.0 Jelly Bean operating system. We had heard that LG was in discussions with Google about making the next Nexus and now, it looks as if we can add HTC to that list.

TechRadar recently spoke with HTC?s global online communications manager, Jeff Gordon, about the prospects of the next Nexus being made by HTC.

Gordon, it appears was very candid with his response.

Maybe a little too candid.

HTC Lobbying to Make the Next Nexus Smartphone

Gordon is quoted as saying:

Google hasn?t chosen its Nexus partner for (Android) Jellybean as yet. So right now all the manufacturers are crossing their fingers.

However, the TechRadar article mysteriously disappeared after Android and Me first linked to it. Might Gordon have said too much?

Could be.

Especially if negotiations are currently going on. As we?ve said, LG has already confirmed that it?s in heavy discussions with Google about manufacturing the next Nexus device and it would appear that HTC is as well.

We shouldn?t discount Motorola, which has yet to make a Nexus device and is currently in the process of being bought by Google, nor should be forget about Samsung, even if it has made the last two devices.

Being the manufacturer of the next Nexus is important to these companies and it goes beyond sales and marketing.

The company that ends up making the Nexus also gets early access to Android code and the required specifications, hardware-wise, for the software. Certainly an edge worth acquiring.

Thus far, all three Nexus devices have been quality releases and it would be interesting to see Google take a chance on a company like LG, which has launched buggy devices like the T-Mobile G2x here in the United States.

Maybe the LG Optimus 4X HD, one of better phones to arrive at this year?s Mobile World Congress, will help sway Google. Who knows.

In any event, Google is expected to announce Android 5.0 Jelly Bean at this year?s Google I/O, set to take place in July, with a release coming at some point this fall.

Who do you want to make the next Nexus smartphone?

HTC One X Pre-Orders Begin at Best Buy

Yesterday, as expected, HTC announced its new line of smartphones called the One series. The lineup includes the HTC One X, HTC OneS, and the HTC OneV. Well, one of those phones, the HTC One X for AT&T, has apparently gone up for pre-order as Android-Life has snagged an image of a document that says that Best Buy is now taking pre-orders ahead of its April launch date.

Of course, as the retailer notes, pricing and a release date are still a complete mystery. Again, we know it will be shipping in April, but we likely won?t know when until sometime in March.

(Read: In-Depth Hands-On: HTC One X and Sense 4.0 (Video))

So, if you waltz into a Best Buy to place your order, know that you?re going to be doing it blindly. And, of course, there is always a chance that the launch could be pushed back beyond its target date.

AT&T HTC One X Pre-Orders Begin at Best Buy

See: Motorola Droid Bionic or Best Buy?s HTC ThunderBolt launch fiasco.

We don?t blame people for wanting to put an order down for this phone though. We were able to go hands-on with it earlier today and we came away very impressed by what we saw.

HTC has promised better phones for 2012 and the HTC One X appears to be a step in that direction.

Now, keep in mind, the AT&T model is not going to be the quad-core model that was shown off yesterday at the Mobile World Congress. Instead of a Tegra 3 quad-core processor, the HTC One X for AT&T will sport a dual-core Snapdragon processor.

The reason for that is because NVIDIA?s Tegra 3 chip doesn?t yet support 4G LTE and AT&T apparently wanted this device on its 4G LTE network.

To get a better sense of the phone, you can see the HTC One X for AT&T in action in the video below:

So, for those interested, head on in to your nearest Best Buy and ask them about a pre-order for the HTC One X. You may just walk out the owner of a new smartphone.

Megaphone turns up the volume

by Edwin - on February 27th, 2012

So, you think that the iPhone or iPod touch is the next best thing since sliced bread? You could be correct on the account of it being a portable media player, and apart from docking it to a standard speaker dock or listening to your tunes using a pair of headphones, along comes the Megaphone which will be available in two flavors ? 399.99 and 599.99, where the former comes in black or white shades, while the latter is plated in gold, hence the increase in price.

This is the accessory if you want to increase your iPhone?s public audio capability by a mile without having to lug around separate speakers. All you need to do is plug it into the Megaphone, and resembling an Alpine horn, this spectacular ceramic device will be able to rest on a stylish wooden stand. Definitely a conversation starter, and is the perfect ice breaker if you are going to hold a party that will see many guests not know each other.

Google All But Confirms Android?s Next Firmware Name ? Bowl Of Jelly Beans Given To MWC Attendees

For as long as we?ve been calling it Jelly Bean, it?s hard to believe that the codename for the next version of Android has never been confirmed by Google HQ. It was all the way back in September of ?11 that we told you guys that Jelly Bean was in the running for the next version of Android and given there aren?t very many ?J? desserts to go off of, Jell Bean seemed a likely fit. Now, during Mobile World Congress 2012, it looks like that name has all been but confirmed with Google offering a bowl full of jelly beans to the press in a private meeting area. I think we can safely call that confirmed, folks. The next dessert to follow Ice Cream Sandwich will, in fact, be Jelly Bean. Only thing left is figuring out what that darn version number will be?

Opera Mobile 12 Brings Superior HTML5 Performance to Android [MWC 2012]

Our friends at Opera today announced a new version of their mobile browser for Android. Opera Mobile 12 for Android may not bring significant new features that the every day user might care about, but for those of us who know the importance of a good rendering engine, it?s pretty exciting.

They?ve added full WebGL support to the browser to make it possible for graphically-rich applications and games to run without fail. As you know, the future of the web is HTML5 and even Adobe believes Flash should gracefully bow out of the game to make room for it. They also made lots of improvements to their HTML 5 rendering engine overall.

Their new changes garnered them a score of 354+11 on HTML 5 benchmark site html5test.com. They say it?s the highest score anyone has ever gotten, though they acknowledge that the top performer changes all the time and that someone could quickly surpass them. Still, they currently have one of the fastest, most efficient and accurate HTML 5 rendering engines on mobile. Give it a try in the Android market and be sure to find our video of it above.

Verizon ?loyal? customers are being offered the newest phones for free

Being a loyal customer hardly pays off, but every now and then awesome offers show up. And we have recently found out that Verizon is holding a very special sale for its ?loyal? customers.

If you have been with Verizon for quite some time, and have an upgrade available any time soon, it might be worth to keep an eye on your inbox. Verizon has been sending e-mails to select subscribers, offering them free devices.

These are not just any devices, though. The offer includes phones like the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, the Motorola Droid RAZR and the Samsung Stratosphere. These devices go from $150-$300, so this is definitely a deal to sign up for.

As expected, you will have to sign a 2-year contract, but most people do anyways. Are any of you getting these e-mails? Signing up for any of these phones?

LEGO Millennium Falcon Storage Case

by Edwin - on February 26th, 2012

Are you a huge Star Wars fan? If that is the case, surely you would love collecting different kind of merchandise associated with the space opera that spans across 6 movies, inspiring a ton of other merchandise over the years as well. You might as well add this to the super long list ? the 14.99 LEGO Millennium Falcon Storage Case. Yes sir, you know that this is touted to be the fastest ship in the galaxy by the Captain himself, the legendary Han Solo, and we would expect the kind of cargo it carries to be worth some value ? otherwise Han would not even bother. Having said that, I am quite sure whoever purchases this also wants to stash away their valuable items within, especially for kids.

Inside, there is enough space to hide away 23 actual LEGO Star Wars characters, who are located in pockets all around the edge. In addition, there is also an entire area dedicated for playing or if most moms have their way, to store your packed lunch within. There is enough space inside to hold up to 200 LEGO bricks.

A projector? A Phone? It?s projectaphone!

Samsung may not be releasing an upgrade to its flagship Galaxy S series, but that doesn?t mean they?re not busy. They?ve already outed a new Galaxy Tab 10.1 (which is nothing but the same old Galaxy Tab, but with a Micro SD slot and ICS out of the box), and now they?ve launched the Galaxy Beam.

The stand out feature is, undoubtedly, the in-built projector. It also has a 4-inch WVGA display, 1GHz dual-core processor, 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera, 8 GB of internal storage, microSD card slot,GSM quad-band HSPA+ connectivity and a 2000 mAh. The projector can work for roughly 2 hours.

There won?t be any ICS, though, since the phone launches with Gingerbread. And I don?t really see it upgrading to ICS, as there?s no mention of it in the press release.

Share the Fun with Samsung GALAXY Beam
Samsung?s projector smartphone offers unforgettable shared experience for playing multimedia content anytime, anywhere

Barcelona - February 26, 2012 -Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd,a global leader in digital media and digital convergence technologies, today introduced Samsung GALAXY Beam, the projector smartphone that allows users to display and share multimedia content anywhere on a large luminous projector screen.

GALAXY Beam lets users spontaneously share photos, videos or other digital media with family or friends by beaming content stored on the device directly onto walls, ceilings or improvised flat surfaces, so that everyone can share the fun without the need to huddle around smartphone or pad-sized screens. GALAXY Beam?s ultra-bright 15 lumens projector allows users to freely share life?s memorable moments instantly and in crisp clarity, even in outdoor environments.

"GALAXY Beam provides mobile freedom, enabling a unique shared experience around digital content for everyone--anywhere and instantly--from a smartphone as slim and portable as any on the market," saidJK Shin, President of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics.

"GALAXY Beam is a device borne out of Samsung?s insight and innovation, demonstrating Samsung?s commitment to providing extraordinary experiences for consumers with products that let them express and fulfill themselves."

Video clips, maps, business information, games - a whole range of multimedia content can be beamed instantly by GALAXY Beam on a crisp, high-definition projection up to 50?? wide. The device features a projector-dedicated application which makes it easy to select content and activate projection in a few simple steps.

Add a dose of ambience or entertainment to a friends? gathering by transforming any household room or outdoor deck into an instant mini home-theater, projecting full-screen video clips on a ceiling or wall for common sharing, at the touch of a button. Or capture your favorite holiday moments using the GALAXY Beam?s 5MP camera, then display a full photo slideshow to family members on a dining room wall while playing accompanying music straight from the device, so that everyone shares the experience.

For young users who depend on constant, immediate socializing of digital content and entertainment, GALAXY Beam introduces a new way of sharing. It becomes much more than a phone--a handy digital tool, deployable anywhere, which can add visual entertainment to a simple street gathering, set the mood for a small party, or simply turn life?s moments into something personally and immediately sharable. With GALAXY Beam, a birthday or anniversary party can be enlivened in seconds by sharing YouTube or Hulu music videos straight onto a ceiling or door. Likewise, students can collectively share videos or study-work in any dormitory room or student lounge, turning group study into a whole new interactive experience right from a desk table or from the palm of their hands. GALAXY Beam is also ideal for action-packed interactive gaming: Users can upload their own games or choose from over 1,000 games available via Game Hub, Samsung?s dedicated virtual gaming store, then project games to co-players or observers to turn gaming into an unbeatably interactive, shared experience. Additionally, GALAXY Beam is convenient tool for mid-sized business workers. An estate agent can beam images of candidate properties to customers as they tour them; or an architect can display draft concepts or designs to co-workers on the spot at a building site or public location.

Despite featuring a full built-in projector, the GALAXY Beam does not compromise on style or portability, measuring just 12.5mm thick and featuring an elegant, ergonomic design. It runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread which is powered by an impressive 1.0GHz dual-core processor, ensuring great versatility and a highly responsive user interface. An impressive 8GB of internal memory allows ample multimedia storage without compromises, and a powerful 2000 mAh battery ensures greater display power and content freedom.

The GALAXY Beam is exhibited at Samsung stand (Hall 8), Mobile World Congress 2012. For multimedia content and more detailed information, please visitwww.samsungmobilepress.com.

Printopia 2 for Mac Mobile Printing Software Review

We have been promised a paperless office for years now. Perhaps it will never happen. With the iPad, I have found that many of the documents I used to print out I now carry on my device or store online in a service such as Evernote or Dropbox. But, on occasion, I?ll want to print something from my iPhone or iPad, and there?s no AirPrint printer available, or I really just want to send a screen shot to my Mac. How do I do it? Printopia, a Mac application from ecamm,to the rescue!

The software installs as a Preference Pane, which, for those who don?t know, is similar to a Control Panel in Windows. You open System Preferences, and there it is. When you click on it to activate it, you have a few interesting settings:

All of the printers on your Mac will show up, in addition to Dropbox, Evernote, and an option to send documents to your Mac. Any items can be activated or enabled by a simple check box. Once this is done, any iOS device on the same WiFi network as your Mac gets the chosen options in the Print? dialog box in any app that accesses the built-in AirPrint printing routines.

If you?ve despaired over having to add the cost of a new AirPrint-capable printer to your network with the purchase of an iOS device, this little gem is a $20 wonder. I cannot get across to you in this review how cleanly and easily everything transfers. Printing to the Mac from any app will send the image in the most logical format: a web page is printed as a multipage PDF, and just pops open on your Mac in your default PDF reader. A photo comes across as a JPG (if it was from the camera) or a png (if it was a screen shot). It?ll open in the default apps for those document types. All documents are put into a Printopia folder that is created on first transfer in your document folder.

Not only is simple printing enabled, but you can also create workflows within the PrefPane to have PDFs sent to other apps on your Mac for annotation, storage, or other processing. The ?+? button on the settings pane reveals many options:

The first three options are obvious, but the PDF workflow one is amazing. Every app on your Mac that can process a PDF is enabled to receive a PDF from any iOS device. Using Fliq, for example, I can send the document from any iPad to my iPhone via my Mac without having to open/transfer it. I just have to say ?yes, that?s OK.?

There are other equally impressive apps available from ecamm, but this one, if you?re a Mac and iOS user, is by far the most useful! Five stars.

BlackBerry PlayBook LTE Launching in April?

While RIM?s BlackBerry PlayBook may never get Netflix support, it might just be getting 4G LTE support come April, this according to a leaked document courtesy of MobileSyrup. This isn?t surprising, considering that back in August, RIM confirmed to us that it was indeed still developing a 4G LTE enabled BlackBerry PlayBook, even after U.S. carrier Sprint decided to cancel its 4G flavored version of the tablet.

The advertisement isn?t clear about exactly when RIM will be launching the 4G LTE tablet and it?s unclear as to whom it will be going to, if it does indeed arrive.

Currently, the only two major U.S. carriers with 4G LTE networks in place are AT&T and Verizon. Sprint hopes to have its 4G LTE network in place by the middle of 2012 while T-Mobile won?t have a 4G LTE network in place until 2013.

BlackBerry PlayBook LTE Launching in Early April?

RIM, which is based in Canada, would probably look to release this device on Canadian carriers as well and there are more than a few of them that have 4G LTE networks in place.

The news comes at an interesting time for RIM?s tablet.

Earlier this week, the company rolled out the highly anticipated BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 which brought along native email, contacts and the ability to use Android applications amongst other features.

(Read: BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 Available Now With Native Email, Android App Support.)

And while the software had been a bright spot for the fledgling company, the PlayBook?s coming out party took a hit when Netflix revealed that it currently has no plans to offer an app for the PlayBook or any other BlackBerry devices.

Lack of applications for the PlayBook on RIM?s BlackBerry App World has been cited as one of the reasons the tablet has been getting hammered by the iPad and other tablets in sales.

It?s unclear if RIM will announce this device at the Mobile World Congress or during a separate event later on this year.

Kindle Fire Owners Ready To Switch to iPad 3

The iPad 3 release date is just around the corner, and there are already users thinking about lining up for the new iPad.

We expect that Apple will launch the iPad 3 on March 16th, which means the 5% of respondents in a recent survey by TechBargains.com will be camping out on March 15th. Together with those who plan to show up later, nearly a quarter of respondents plan to buy the iPad 3 on release day.

(Read: What We Know About the iPad 3)

It?s no surprise that a lot of people are planning to buy the iPad 3, but what did take me by surprise was the number of Kindle Fire owners who are planning to buy an iPad 3.

Of those surveyed, over half of the Kindle Fire owners are planning to buy the iPad 3.

That?s pretty close to the 56% of iPad 2 owners who responded they would upgrade to the iPad 3, and impressive given how many of these respondents purchased the Fire within the last six months.

TechBargain?s survey of 1,305 respondents found that 48% were planning to buy an iPad 3, and revealed that income didn?t play a big role in the desire to upgrade. Though the top reason respondents earning $150,000 or more gave for notbuyingwas that the iPad was too expensive!

The survey respondents also shared their most desired iPad 3 features. Sadly, I think many of these features will be missing from the iPad 3 announcement.

  • Quad Core Processor: 85%
  • Better Speaker: 82%
  • USB Port: 82%
  • Memory Card Slot: 81%
  • Less Reflective Screen: 72%
  • Siri: 65%
  • Support for Thunderbolt (42%)
  • Multiple User accounts (51%)

A quad-core processor could happen, but rumors suggest we won?t see it on the iPad 3. I don?t see Apple adding a USB port or a SD card reader to the iPad 3, or any iPad for that matter.

I would love to have Multiple accounts, Siri and better speakers on the iPad 3, but we?ll be lucky if the iPad 3 has Siri.

Curiously absent from the list is the Retina Display and 4G LTE. While I really want these features, I?m guessing that the average iPad user won?t care about the iPad 3 Retina Display until Apple tells them what the benefits are in the announcement or in the first iPad 3 ad. As for 4G LTE, I agree with Adam Mills, that most users don?t need a 4G LTE iPad 3, but I still want one.
